Artesano que cambió el rostro del retablo tradicional peruano, representando otros aspectos de la vida cotidiana.
Creador de diferentes tipos de retablos como el “Retablo de corazones”, a través de sus colores representa los estados o emociones por los cuales atraviesa el ser humano en la vida, “Retablos de Máscaras”, por el cual obtuvo un reconocimiento de Unesco, “Tienda de sombreros”, “Tienda de Instrumentos musicales”, etc.
El artista explica que las máscaras de los retablos están influenciadas por las máscaras de los diferentes bailes que se realizan en la montaña y en la selva, “trato de reflejar que todos tenemos máscaras, porque en cuanto te levantas te pones una máscara ante la sociedad y ante la vida”.

“The Altarpiece of Hearts” tries to represent in different colors the various states or emotions for which the human being goes through in the course of life.
Julio César Gallardo obtains the “Unesco Recognition for Crafts” 2010 – 2011 for his work:
“Retablo Mask Workshop”
The artist explains that the Retablos Masks are influenced by the masks of the different dances performed in the mountains and jungle.
“I try to reflect that we all have masks because as soon as you get up you put on a mask before the society and before life”
